2016.02.19 11:16 LuxReflexio Why is there still no one talking about the role that Hillary's State Dept. played in the Honduras coup?

For those unaware, the "unaccompanied minors" that Hillary wants to save from smugglers are children coming from Honduras (as well as El Salvador and Guatemala). If you'd like to learn more about why they are fleeing Honduras in particular, please read this article.
The short of it is this: in 2009, the democratically elected left-leaning leader of Honduras Manuel Zelaya was deposed and exiled in an illegal coup by Honduras' right wing congress, military and supreme court. The only country of note that maintained relations with the country after the coup was the US, even after Obama himself called it an illegal coup and demanded that Zelaya be returned to power. Despite this, the Clinton State Department worked behind the scenes to ensure that Zelaya would not return to power and that new elections would take place.
A direct quote from Hillary's book Hard Choices:
“In the subsequent days [after the coup] I spoke with my counterparts around the hemisphere…We strategized on a plan to restore order in Honduras and ensure that free and fair elections could be held quickly and legitimately, which would render the question of Zelaya moot.”
One of those "counterparts" was Lanny Davis. Davis is a lawyer and long time friend of the Clinton family. He defended Bill Clinton during his impeachment proceedings. Lanny now represents the Honduras chapter of CEAL, or The Business Council of Latin America, i.e. the oligarchs and private interests that initiated, facilitated and/or benefited from the coup. Ever since the coup took place, femicide and assaults and murders of LGBTs, children and political activists have skyrocketed. In fact, 1 woman is killed every 16 hours. You can imagine why they are fleeing with their children in droves.
Despite all the talk in the debates and the town halls about these children that Hillary wants to turn back ("We have to send a clear message, just because your child gets across the border, that doesn't mean the child gets to stay" - HRC, 2014), absolutely no one in the media or in the Sanders campaign is bringing up why they are fleeing in the first place. More people need to know about this and hold Hillary to task.
